Let’s Paint TV’s John Kilduff with live music: Michael Evans & Kevin Shea, Percussion; Sam Kulik, Trombone; Zach Layton, Guitar

* Let’s Paint TV, John Kilduff’s long-running public-access television program, which has grown from anomaly of the airwaves in his native Los Angeles to international phenomenon, will be translated to the realm of L I V E performance for a special, rare appearance here in NYC. Mr. Let’s Paint will be joined by a backing band for this show. You’ve seen him run on a treadmill while painting, taking calls from viewers, cooking food, playing ping pong, and making blended drinks but you haven’t seen him multitask like this. We can’t wait to see what he pulls off this time.

* Lame Driver as King Nebuchadnezzar – Home Blitz/Lame Drivers member, WFMU radio personality faxes your head with a rare solo performance.

* Enforcer – PC Worship/The Dreebs offshoot, an enforcer’s job is to deter and respond to dirty or violent play by the opposition.

* Haribo (with doggiesatnight) – HARIBO is the combination of artists Raul De Nieves, Jessie Stead, and Nathan Whipple. A master blend of early 21st century performance options.

Musical Ecologies is a monthly symposium on music and sound held every 2nd Thursday (except where noted) at the Old Stone House in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Curated and hosted by composer Dan Joseph, each event focuses on a single artist who presents a work or project either in the form of a talk or lecture, a multimedia presentation, a performance, or combination thereof. Each presentation is preceded by a 30-minute conversation with the curator and audience. Admission is by contribution and a reception follows.

Musical Ecologies continues on Thursday April 11 with Brooklyn-based composer Zach Layton who will present a new work for string quartet and bowed electric guitar entitled Stridulitrum. Performed by Alex Waterman (cello), Amy Cimini (viola), Eli Spindel (violin), Laura Ortman (violin) and the composer (bowed electric guitar), the work is inspired by a study of the sound production process used by many insects involving the scraping together of different body parts, typically legs or wings. The mechanism, know as stridulation, is best known in crickets and grasshoppers, but other insects include Curculionidae, Cerambycidae, Mutillidae, Reduviidae, Buprestidae,Hydrophilidae, Cicindelinae, Scarabaeidae, Glaresidae, Passalidae, Geotrupidae, Alydidae, Miridae, Corixi.
